YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL

Rising Tide Athletics

Club Fun2Mental Flag Football

Rising Tide Athletics and Club Fun2Mental have partnered together to offer free & accessible flag football to the Beloit community beginning this Spring (2024).

Club Fun2Mental was founded by Robert Douglas, a Beloit native and graduate of U.W. Whitewater where he played football and ran track. Upon returning home, Robert recognized the need to increase sports/recreation participation in our community. He created Club Fun2Mental to provide much needed sports programs to various age groups and skill levels.

Through passion and purpose, Robert grew Club Fun2Mental from a small grassroots organization to one serving hundreds of local youth each season. By partnering together, our two organizations seek to build upon this established success through the addition of our own sports complex and making participation free for all local youth.

Youth Flag Football FAQs

Got questions? We've got answers.

  • How much does it cost?

Nothing. All of our youth sports leagues are FREE.

  • I participated in Club Fun2Mental flag football in the past. Is this the same program?

Club Fun2Mental was founded by our Athletic Director, Robert Douglas, to provide flag football to local youth. Over the years, Rob has served thousands of kids through his programs.

Rising Tide Athletics and Club Fun2Mental have partnered together to build upon this established flag football success through the use of Rising Tide’s sports complex and making participation free for all local youth.

  • What age groups can participate?

All youth leagues are Grades 1 thru 8. High schoolers are welcome to participate in our Adult Flag Football League in the Fall.

  • Do you offer girls flag football?

Yes! We offer BOTH girls and boys flag football leagues. We are committed to ensuring we have sufficient numbers for both.

  • Do I need to provide my athlete with equipment/uniform?

Rising Tide provides all the equipment necessary for flag football. All athletes will be provided a reversible team jersey. Cleats are strongly recommended and can be provided upon request for any child who needs them.

  • When does registration begin? Where can I register?

Registration opens February 26th. Registration needs to be completed online and can be done so here https://www.therisingtidecenter.org/signup.

Any questions can be submitted to us at athletics@therisingtidecenter.org.

  • When does the season begin? How long is the season?

The season begins on April 15th and lasts 9 weeks. Championship games will be held on the final weekend of June 15th/16th.

  • How often will my athlete practice and how many games are played?

Rising Tide Athletics strives to build healthy, well-rounded athletes. This starts through proper instruction of fundamentals and team concepts at the youth level. We have constructed our youth sports leagues accordingly by dividing each 9-week season into THREE blocks.

Weeks 1-3: Consist of three “Skills & Drills” sessions per week. These consist of large camp/clinic like sessions designed to give our athletes quality instruction in the respective sport fundamentals. All sessions are taught by qualified individuals hand-selected by the Rising Tide. Volunteer coaches will participate in each session to learn the proper teaching of fundamentals under our expert instructors. At the end of Week 3, athletes will be assessed on skill and be assigned to teams accordingly.

Weeks 4-6: Teams will practice twice per week, during which coaches will teach a combination of the skills and drills they learned along with team concepts. Saturday's will remain Skill & Drill sessions.

Weeks 7-9: Teams will continue practicing twice per week while Skill & Drill will be replaced with games on Saturdays. Teams will play at least six games, consisting of two each Saturday. The final weekend will consist of a tournament-style championship.

  • Where are games and practices held?

Skills & drills, team practices, and games will all take place on our turf fields at The Rising Tide Sports Complex #1 (1633 Keeler Avenue). Field lighting is present for all outdoor sports facilities, allowing for after-dark play.

  • Can I pick what team my athlete is on?

You cannot. After the first three weeks of Skill & Drill sessions, Rising Tide will assess players based on skill level and assign them to teams accordingly.

  • Can my athlete play up a grade level?

Our priority is building healthy, well-rounded athletes through quality instruction in a fun environment. Rising Tide will assign players to whatever grade level and team we feel will best accomplish this.

  • I would like to volunteer my time. Can I coach a team?

Volunteer coaches are welcome. Coaching will be a three day per week commitment for a total of nine weeks. Coaches will be required to attend all Skill & Drill sessions to master the proper teaching of fundamentals and team concepts under the expert instructors selected by Rising Tide.

After these first three weeks, players will be assigned to teams based on their skill level. Coaches will be responsible for organizing two team practices per week for the rest of the season using the drills and concepts they learned. Field time for said practices will be provided by Rising Tide at our sports complex. Practices will be weekday afternoons/evenings while games will be on Saturdays. All coaches will need to complete a background check.

  • I believe myself or someone I know would qualify as an “Expert Instructor” for Skills & Drills. How can we get involved?

If you have extensive experience playing and/or instructing within the sport and feel you are qualified to assist with the Skill & Drill sessions, you are welcome to contact us (“athletics@therisingtidecenter.org). Please let us know your qualifications and experience.

We have two athletic directors whose full-time job it is to assemble the most well-rounded and experienced group of instructors for each sport possible.

  • What is a “Team Parent”? How can I become one?

Rising Tide is doing everything in our power to make youth sports accessible to as many children in our community as possible. From all programs being free and hosted at our own facilities to providing any necessary equipment free of charge (cleats, jerseys, etc). Team parents are critical to help us ensure no children fall through the cracks.

It is our goal to have TWO team parents per team. Team parents will help with everything from arranging transportation for other children on the team who might need a ride, to making/bringing healthy snacks to practices and games, and assisting the coach with any tasks they might need help with. All team parents will need to complete a background check.

  • Do I need to have a child participating to be a “Team Parent”?

We’re a community center with an emphasis on COMMUNITY. A community is bigger than the immediate family. Anyone is welcome to volunteer as a team parent granted they complete a background check and pass the due diligence that Rising Tide performs on all its volunteers.

  • Do I need to provide transportation?

The Rising Tide Center is centrally located in a dense residential area. Our priority is to first serve those in the immediate surrounding neighborhoods. Bike racks are available off the Carnegie Avenue entrance and out front off Keeler Avenue. For those who don’t have a ride, nor are able to walk or bike, coaches and team parents will be there to help arrange rides granted parents/guardians give permission.

  • As a parent/guardian, can I attend my athlete's games and practices?

Parents, friends, and family are all welcome to attend league events. However, Rising Tide is here to serve the children first and foremost. We have a ZERO tolerance for verbal harassment of referees, coaches, kids, or any behavior deemed detrimental to the children in our leagues.

Rising Tide is privately funding these leagues for your child free of charge out of our own pockets. If you don’t like our rules, you can take your ball and go home.

  • Does The Rising Tide Center accept donations?

The Rising Tide is privately funded. We do not take donations, grants, or money of any sort. If you would like to help, we kindly ask that you volunteer your time in one of the ways described above.
